The project began with a straightforward goal: the client purchased a new freight lift to transfer equipment from their ground floor to a second-level mezzanine. The original plan called for the freight lift to penetrate the existing concrete mezzanine deck. However, after an internal review by the client’s management team, the strategy shifted. They elected to move the freight lift to a new location near a set of existing stairs that connected the ground floor to a different second-level mezzanine.

This relocation introduced significant logistical hurdles. The configuration of the existing stairs did not provide sufficient clearance for the freight lift to be installed as built. Additionally, the new location required a complex bridging solution to connect the lift to the mezzanine level. The existing building conditions made a standard platform extension challenging, creating a need for a highly customized approach to ensure operational efficiency without compromising safety or space.

To resolve the spatial constraints, FCP Mezzanines engineered a completely new configuration of Custom Industrial Steel Stairs.
